Paperwilds is run by bookbinder and paper artist Freya Scott. Freya has been a bookbinder for 8 years and has worked for various binderies and institutions across the south of England. She has been teaching for the last three years in various places in London and across the country. She is currently principle instructor at Bound by Veterans, a charity that uses bookbinding and related crafts as part of a rehabilitation therapy for sick and injured veterans.
Esoteric London is a cutting edge design label specialising in outrageously creative jewellery and accessories for the bold and fearless. Established in 2012 by London College of Fashion graduate Chloe Hope King who wanted to create something fresh reflecting her love for hands on design and manufacture. Using sustainable, natural and locally sourced materials where possible, Esoteric London use a combination of traditional methods and modern technology to create fun statement pieces.
This collaboration fell in to place whilst Chloe was fawning over tiny scraps of Freya’s paper destined for the bin and thinking how modern and wearable the ancient patterns were. Meanwhile Freya wanted to find a new and contemporary way to keep the craft alive, and so the pair decided to experiment with some playful colourways and striking shapes to create their debut collection.
Marbling is one of 17 endangered heritage crafts, with this particular hand marbling technique having been in use since the 15th century! Every single piece in the range has been hand-made in South-East London, and as they are hand marbled, no two patterns are the same!
